アメリカ・ヨーロッパを問わず、一番古いステッキの形式の一つ。最初は木製、途中一部の部品を金属で補強し、後に全てを鉄または鋼などで製造するようになる。Kneeを固定するのに色々な方法が考案されたが、その一つはRailまたはKneeに、Knee固定用のネジを通すための穴もしくは溝を作ることだった。Railには1インチ間隔に丸穴が開けられるか、Railとほぼ同等の長さの溝が開けられた。Kneeの内、Railに接触する部分には、これにも溝が開けられた。RailとKneeにこのような穴や溝を開けることにより、あらゆる細かい寸法に対応できるようになっており、シンプルな形式のため非常に実用的で融通の利く製品でもあって数多くのメーカーが製造した。また、このステッキでは通常、Bedに目盛りは刻まれなかった。

This is one of the oldest type sticks. The first stick was made of wood, later some parts of it were covered with metal, and eventually all of it was produced of iron, steel or other metal. Various methods were devised to fix the knee. One of those was that the rail or the knee had holes or a groove to be passed through by the screw for fastning the knee. The rail was pierced by holes at one inch apart from each other or slotted its nearly full length. The part of the knee that rested against the rail had a groove, too. Because of opening thus holes or a groove to the rail or knee, this stick was able to adjust to any measure. Although usually ungraduated and simple, it was very functional and versatile, and was manufactured by many companies.
